About Us
Computer Gaming Addiction Treatment Services was founded by Dr. Kenneth Woog as an alternative to once a week outpatient therapy or long term residential treatment for Computer Gaming Addiction. This problem, considered by some to be a growing epidemic, affects as many as 6% of online computer gamers. While treating this problem for the past 6 years, Dr. Woog found that many clients needed more intensive therapy and a closer level of support than traditional once a week, 50 minute therapy afforded. Yet the alternate was residential placement or wilderness programs where the individual is removed from the home. Similar to drug rehab, these programs are expensive and eventually the individual returns home with the high risk of relapse without ongoing care. The addict will ultimately need to use the computer again.
As an alternative, intensive in-home treatment would allow for behavioral and socioemotional treatment in the individual's natural setting with support provided to all affected family members. Behavioral treatment methods to set limits and monitoring behavior can be applied in a manner that leads to lasting lifestyle changes. Parents and significant others can receive the support they need to help their loved ones maintain treatment gains.
